We’re thankful for the leaders God has placed at Liberty Church. Our staff serves with a shared heart to help people encounter Jesus, grow in faith, and love our city well.
Senior Pastor
Deborah McGaffin has spent more than five decades loving Jesus, serving people, and faithfully building the local church. She and her husband, Jim, were married in 1976 after meeting at a charismatic prayer gathering. Together, they shared 49 years of marriage and 43 years of ministry before Jim went home to be with the Lord.
In 1983, while pregnant with their third son, Deborah and Jim stepped into pastoral ministry. The following year, they purchased their first church building in South Omaha, beginning a journey that would impact countless individuals, marriages, and families. At the heart of their ministry was a simple desire: to lead people to Christ, introduce them to the Holy Spirit, see people experience healing and deliverance, and make Jesus known. They also carried a special heart for strengthening marriages and ministered to couples through seminars and pastoral ministry.
Deborah and Jim were blessed with four children, three sons and a daughter, and one of their greatest joys has been seeing the legacy of faith continue through their family. Three of their children have served in ministry, and today their daughter serves as lead pastor of the church Deborah and Jim established, Liberty Church.
After more than four decades of ministry, Deborah’s heart remains the same: to help people know who they are in Jesus Christ, know His Word, and truly know Him. She loves Omaha and its people and continues to carry a deep desire to see Jesus made known from one generation to the next.

Associate Pastor
Mike has been married to his wife, Margie, since 1980, has served on staff at Liberty Church for over 20 years, and currently leads the church’s outreach and ushering ministries. They are the parents of two daughters and grandparents to three grandchildren.
Mike received Jesus at a R.W. Schambach meeting and was filled with the Holy Spirit at a Full Gospel Business Men’s gathering. He has been a member of Liberty Church since 1984. Beginning in 1992, Mike has served as a leader and volunteer in the ministry of helps, including ushering and staff support. For ten years, he coordinated the ministry of helps at a national conference. He joined the church staff in 2002 and has served as a pastor since 2000. Today, Mike continues his ministry of helps as outreach coordinator and cake designer.
Associate Pastors
Brandon and Charity have been married since 2014 and are the proud and loving parents of two children. Both serve in overseeing family ministries and worship at Liberty Church. Brandon has been on staff since 2007, and Charity joined the staff in 2013, serving alongside Brandon as youth pastors for several years.
They are passionate about discipling people and helping them reach their full potential in Jesus. Brandon gave his life to Jesus at a young age, growing up in a Spirit-filled Christian home. He was filled with the Holy Spirit at age 11 and felt called to ministry in high school. At a church youth conference, he was prophesied over and told that he would serve in ministry. Much like Brandon, Charity gave her life to Jesus at a young age and was filled with the Holy Spirit on her 16th birthday. She felt led to attend Bible college in Atlanta, Georgia, where she met Pastor Mercedes (Liberty’s lead pastor). Pastor Mercedes invited Charity to stay with her for the summer between her second and third years of Bible college in Omaha. While volunteering at the church that summer, Charity met Brandon. Brandon was thrilled when she agreed to a date, and they later married as they pursued God’s purpose and plan for their lives together.
Kids Ministry Directors
Courtney and Mitchell have been married since 2021 and have had the privilege of serving as Children’s Directors since 2021 as well. Outside of the church, they are both teachers who love Jesus and share a passion for working with kids and helping them grow. Whether they are teaching in the classroom or serving at church, they love creating opportunities for kids to learn, grow, and discover new things.
They are passionate about investing in the next generation and are grateful for every opportunity to encourage, teach, and make a difference in the lives of kids.
First Impressions
Cassidy is blessed to be one of the first people guests see at Liberty Church. One of Liberty’s biggest messages is, “You Belong Here,” and Cassidy is passionate about helping every person feel that truth from the moment they walk through the doors. Cassidy believes there is great beauty and power in fellowship and wants guests to feel as though they have been part of the Liberty family for years.
When Cassidy first walked through Liberty’s doors, they did not know what to expect. Yet, before even finding a seat in the sanctuary, Cassidy experienced a sense of peace and belonging that made them realize they were home.
Cassidy began attending Liberty Church in May 2018 and quickly became involved in the youth group and media team, helping run slides and lights. Thankfully, Cassidy only created one memorable blackout along the way.
In 2019, Cassidy was given the opportunity to become a Co-Director of the youth group and also joined the worship team. Over the past several years, Cassidy transitioned to playing drums—often without shoes and with the occasional dropped drumstick, much to the team’s amusement. Cassidy also helps capture photos and videos for social media and is always willing to jump in wherever needed.
